Precious Plate’s 90,000-square-foot facility runs over 20 reel-to-reel electroplating lines, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We provide quick turnaround of plated components for manufacturers worldwide- including plating of stamped components as well as pre-plating of continuous coil-stock for subsequent stamping.
Reel-to-reel plating processes meet a variety of needs
Precious Plate’s experienced staff members will work with you to select and customize reel-to-reel electroplating lines that meet your specific plating needs. Reel-to-reel electroplating lines can provide: reflow plating tin, selective spot plating, selective stripe plating, additive masking plating, and wide-stock plating, and many other unique electroplating processes.
Reel-to-reel electroplating equipment design—Precious Plate will work with your engineers to understand the electroplating specifications for each part. Depending on the electroplating process, this step can include redesigning and retooling reel-to-reel electroplating equipment to meet your specific product requirements. We'll also consult with our sister company, Precision Process Inc., to develop the perfect system and often, prototypes to ensure optimum efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Electroplating pre-treatment—During pre-treatment, your reel of stamped products is de-reeled and taken through an extensive cleaning process, removing any dirt or lubricant used during the stamping process. This process invariably includes an acid treatment to ensure the removal of any oxide layers.
Electroplating the undercoat—Most specifications call for an allover undercoating of nickel or copper. Undercoats help to guard against corrosion and provide a barrier between the base material and the final plated precious metal.
Selective electroplating—After the undercoat is applied, final electroplating begins. With selective electroplating, masking devices engage the strip, exposing specific areas of parts thus minimizing the deposition of precious metals. This can include selective stripe and selective spot for gold plating, palladium plating, silver plating and tin plating. After electroplating the parts are rinsed, dried and re-reeled for shipment back to the customer.
